SWISS adds Airbus A350s to its fleet by 2025

SWISS, through its social networks, announced the incorporation of the Airbus A350, as part of the renewal of its intercontinental fleet. This new model will replace the old Airbus A340-300s by 2025.

The Swiss flag carrier was looking for a successor to replace its four-engine jetsbetween the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350, in the end the European manufacturer came out on top. Part of the airline’s decision to opt for the A350 was the cabin width, which is wider than that of the Dreamliner, thus allowing the company better space for its First-Class seats.

The new aircraft to be incorporated by SWISS will have the new Lufthansa Group products in First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class, reinforcing the company’s premium seating capacity on its intercontinental flights.

In the late 2010s, the company began replacing its Airbus A340-300s with Boeing 777-300ERs, some of the units being delivered to its sister airline Edelweiss to augment its long-haul flights. For the 2023 summer season, SWISS will have four A340s in its fleet, these units received cabin refurbishment.

These Airbus A350s are from Lufthansa Group’s pending order for 28 aircraft. The Swiss flag carrier will be the second operator in the group to operate the European manufacturer’s latest widebody model. With these units, the company will be able to reduce its carbon emissions, be more fuel efficient and reduce noise.

By 2025, SWISS’s intercontinental fleet will consist of Boeing 777-300ERs, Airbus A350s and Airbus A330-300s, the latter of which will begin to be retired as of 2030, giving the airline the possibility of acquiring more A350s.
