American Airlines today reported its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022 and the annual balance sheet of its operation. The airline returned to profit after the previous year’s negative result and historic losses in 2020, as a result of the impact of the pandemic on its business.
«The American Airlines team has produced outstanding results over the past year», said Robert Isom, the airline’s CEO. «We committed to running a reliable operation and returning to profitability, and our team is delivering on both» he added.
In addition, Isom remarked: «We are proud to have led the industry in operational performance over the holidays while producing record full-year and fourth-quarter revenues, resulting in a third consecutive quarterly profit and a profit for the full year».
American Airlines key results for the fourth quarter 2022
- Net income of 803 million dollars or 1.14 dollars per diluted share. In the same period of 2021, the company had reported losses of 931 million.
- Excluding special items, net income was 827 million dollars or 1.17 dollars per diluted share.
- Revenue of 13.189 billion dollars. The figure represents a 16.6% increase over the fourth quarter of 2019, despite a 6.1% reduction in the company’s capacity.
- The carrier and its regional partners operated more than 475.000 flights between October and December, with an average occupancy rate of 83.9%.
American Airlines key results for 2022
- Net income of 127 million dollars or 1.14 dollars per diluted share.
- Excluding special items, net income was 328 million dollars or 0.50 dollars per diluted share.
- Revenue from ticket sales reached 44.568 million dollars, 71% above 2021 values.
- The company ended the year with 12 billion dollars of total available liquidity after early repayment of a 1.2 billion term loan during the fourth quarter.
