Delta has placed an order for 12 Airbus A220s, as the airline continues to renew its short/medium haul fleet. The airline has a firm order for 45 Airbus A220-100s and 74 A220-300s, currently the largest airline operator of this new model.
Scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027, the company continues to streamline its aircraft fleet while investing in new cabin products. Delta’s A220-300s feature a 130-seat configuration in three classes (12 First Class/30 Delta Comfort+/88 Main Cabin).
«These 12 additional A220 aircraft will help power our increasingly optimized fleet while providing our customers with the superior flight experience they have come to expect from Delta,» said Kristen Bojko, vice president of fleet.
Delta took delivery of its first Airbus A220 in October 2018 and was the first U.S. airline operator to fly the aircraft type. The airline currently owns a fleet of 415 Airbus aircraft, including 59 A220 Family, 266 A320 Family, 62 A330ceo/neo and 28 A350-900 aircraft.
«Delta Air Lines was the launch customer in the U.S. for the A220 and this fourth order in just four years from a leading airline like Delta is a very gratifying endorsement,» said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International.
«Today, the aircraft currently connects Delta passengers on more than 100 routes with 25 percent less fuel and CO2 emissions,» Scherer added.
Delta currently has a fleet of 14 A220-300s in service and 60 orders, including 12 recently exercised options. In addition, the U.S. airline currently operates a fleet of 45 109-seat A220-100 aircraft.
