Starting February 13 Lufthansa will fly Boeing 787s between Frankfurt (FRA) and Detroit (DTW), the company’s second intercontinental Dreamliner destination. The company’s new widebody aircraft joined its fleet in August last year and in December began its first long-haul service to Newark (EWR) with daily flights.
The carrier will offer 3,528 seats per week on this route by mid-February, representing a 5% increase in capacity compared to the 279-seat Airbus A340-300 schedule.
Lufthansa Group has a current order of 30 Boeing 787s, currently two aircraft have been delivered and a third Dreamliner registered D-ABPC named «Kiel» is due to join the fleet soon, the company expects to take delivery of another two units by the end of March. Initially, the first 787s will be based at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and will replace the Airbus A340s.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline via Eurostat, 289,250 passengers were mobilized in 2019 between Frankfurt (FRA) and Detroit (DTW). The German financial capital was the third top long-haul destination for Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). Currently, Lufthansa competes in this segment with Delta Air Lines, which offers a daily Airbus A330-200 flight.
