Air France-KLM today presented its financial and operating results for the fourth quarter of 2022, as well as the the annual balance sheet of its operations. After two years marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company returned to profit.
The French-Dutch airline posted a net profit of 728 million euros (773 million dollars) in 2022.
Between October and December, the airline posted its highest four-quarter revenue ever at 7.1 billion euros, up nearly 47.3% compared to 2021.
«Throughout 2022, Air France-KLM once again demonstrated its resilience and agility in a context of unprecedented crises», said Benjamin Smith, CEO of the company. «In spite of the Omicron strain, the war in Ukraine, the inflationary situation and the operational disruptions at major international airports last summer, our Group and its airlines were able to successfully capture a strong demand for travel», he added.
«We close out the year with a positive net income, having turned the page on COVID-19, and look to the future with confidence in our ability to address the challenges ahead», Smith stressed. «I would like to thank all the customers who chose to fly our airlines this year as well as all our employees, who made this year a success through their hard work and commitment to excellence», he concluded.
Key financial and operational results of Air France-KLM in 2022
- Operating revenue of 26.4 billion euros.
- Net profit of 728 million euros.
- Operating margin of 4.5%, 0.3 percentage points above the 2019 level.
- The company’s capacity continued to recover and reached 85% of the 2019 volume. Compared to 2021, it increased by 44.2%.
- Air France-KLM carried 83 million passengers in 2022, 86.5% more than during 2021. However, it still fell short of the number of passengers carried in 2019.
- The occupancy rate reached 84%, 24.8% above the value recorded the previous year.
- Net debt was reduced by 1.9 billion euros compared to the end of 2021.
