Lufthansa Cargo makes humanitarian flight to Turkey

On February 2) Lufthansa Cargo flight LH 8332 operated on a Boeing 777F performed a humanitarian relief operation for those affected by the earthquake in Turkey. The aircraft took off from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) at 08:01 local time and landed at Antalya Airport (AYT) at 13:30.

The Boeing 777F took off fully loaded with relief supplies, winter clothing, blankets, food and hygiene items, which are needed with the highest priority. The donations came from Turkish communities in Hesse and Baden-Württemberg, companies in the region and Lufthansa Cargo employees.

The subsidiaries of the freight forwarding company time:matters, which specializes in emergency logistics, and CB customs broker, a provider of customs services, organized an extensive relief operation together with Lufthansa Cargo. Employees of the German group, who work as volunteers in HelpAlliance’s FRA Comunity, supported the cargo airline in the consolidation and preparation of this humanitarian flight.

The Lufthansa Cargo team operating at the Istanbul station is in close contact with the disaster relief organization AFAD, which receives the relief supplies after landing and takes them to the crisis area.

“We are deeply affected by the scale of the destruction in the border region between Turkey and Syria and want to help. The willingness of our employees in the Lufthansa Cargo and Help Alliance environment to help is enormous, and plans were made immediately to organize a relief flight as soon as possible,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, Chairwoman of the Executive Board and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo AG.

“The terrible earthquake and the immeasurable suffering of the people in Turkey and Syria have us all very concerned. As an emergency logistics provider, we have already gained a great deal of experience in dealing with such events during past crises and catastrophes. Thus, we were able to operationally prepare this cargo flight with urgently needed relief items within 72 hours with our professional teams,” said Alexander Kohnen, CEO of time:matters GmbH.

Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, flew a humanitarian flight for the Austrian Armed Forces to support the earthquake-affected areas of Turkey and Syria, carrying almost 80 special assistance personnel and a team of rescue dogs.
