Bulgaria Air expects to take delivery of its first three Airbus A220s starting mid-year. According to Hristo Todorov told Airshow’s Alexander Bogoyavlensky, the carrier has been working on this order since 2019.
The Sofia Airport-based airline will receive three Airbus A220-300 seating 143 passengers. Its fleet size is expected to increase by 15% in the next two years, although it already scheduled to return the Embraer and two Airbus A319 by 2025.
In an interview conducted by host Veronika Denizova for the In Development program, Todorov said, «The national carrier chose this type of aircraft because of the new type of engines with significantly lower fuel consumption, up to 30-35% than the current aircraft with which we operate scheduled flights.»
«This will help Bulgaria Air to become even more efficient and expand the existing network in terms of number of weekly destinations and new markets. This will reduce our fuel costs and emissions and will give us a greater offer in terms of capacity for our customers.» continued Todorov.
Bulgaria Air announced that the new aircraft will be configured with two types of cabins, 8 seats in business class and the rest in economy, with differentiated seating and catering. The Airbus A220s will fly from Sofia Airport (SOF) to: Paris, London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
