Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), which is participating in Australia’s Avalon 2023 International Aerospace Show, offered its T-50 to meet the advanced training requirements of future Royal Australian Air Force pilots.
The Avalon International Air Show, held at Avalon Airport in South Melbourne, is the largest air show in Oceania and is held every two years, but due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the show had not been carried out for four years. This year’s Avalon Airshow is the largest in its history, with the participation of 700 companies from 30 countries and 160 aircraft, including KAI, which is attending for the first time.
KAI presented at Avalon all its defense products, such as the KF-21 Boramae or the LAH light armed helicopter. However, the emphasis was on the T-50 advanced trainer, and its FA-50 light attack version, which was recently selected by the Malaysian Air Force and purchased in large numbers by the Polish Air Force.
The Royal Australian Air Force is looking for a next-generation advanced tactical trainer, for which the Korean company, together with the American Lockheed Martin (they are jointly marketing in the Australian market), are promoting the T-50 Golden Eagle.
Both companies offer, in addition to the T-50 aircraft, an advanced flight simulator optimized for fifth-generation fighter training, which maximizes pilot comfort and immersion by applying a «Large Area Display (LAD)», similar to that used by the F-35.
Meanwhile, Black Eagles, a special flight team of the Republic of Korea Air Force, participates in this air show to directly publicize the outstanding performance of the T-50 aircraft and support marketing by providing a daily 30-minute show, in which 24 high-level maneuvers are performed.
