After an initial communication in which the Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider (DC ANSP), part of the Dutch government, had informed that it would deny overflight of Arajet aircraft in the region under its jurisdiction, the company and the agency confirmed that the inconvenience has been solved and that the low cost carrier’s operations will not be altered.
The DC ANSP issued a circular dismissing the initial communication and confirming that no restrictions will be applied in the airspace it monitors:
AIC 2023_04 - Cancelled AIC 2023-03- ATS to DWI_This is not the first time that a Dutch territory denies the operations of a Dominican airline: in mid-2022, bilateral agreements between the Dominican Republic and St. Maarten were at risk, after the Civil Aviation Authority of the latter country accused the Civil Aviation Board (CAB) of the Dominican Republic of suspending a company for the benefit of Dominican airlines.
After three days, the JAC informed that the Saint Maarten Civil Aviation, Navigation and Maritime Affairs Authority (SMCAA) lifted the suspension of airline flights from the Dominican Republic, after agreeing to the return of the Dutch airline that operated in Dominican territory.
Arajet’s landing in the Caribbean unleashed fierce competition in the Dominican Republic’s main markets. JetAir Caribbean recently suspended its flights between Curaçao and Santo Domingo, blaming oversupply and a looming price war.
