On April 23 Lufthansa expanded its operations in Spain with the start of a new non-stop service between Frankfurt (FRA) and Asturias (OVD), which will offer 828 seats per week according to Cirium. According to Cirium. The German carrier is the only foreign legacy airline to fly to OVD.
Flight LH 1552 arrived with 115 passengers, an occupancy factor of more than 80%, and was operated on an Airbus A319 registered with the registration number D-AIBB and christened “Aalen”, which took off from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) at 13:57 local time and landed at Asturias Airport (OVD) at 15:56, after one hour and 58 minutes.
With this new service, Lufthansa will connect from its main hubs in Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC) to the three main cities in northern Spain, including services to Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) and Bilbao (BIO), the latter being the carrier’s third largest Spanish market with 12,648 seats per week. The airline also has scheduled a non-stop flight between the Bavarian capital and Asturias (OVD) starting April 29.
The German airline’s network in Spain for the summer season will have services to Malaga (AGP), Alicante (ALC), Barcelona (BCN), Bilbao (BIO), Ibiza (IBZ), Madrid (MAD), Asturias (OVD), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Santiago de Compostela (SCQ), Seville (SVQ), Valencia (VLC), Menorca (MAH) and Jerez de la Frontera (XRY). In addition, the company has scheduled flights to Fuerteventura (FUE), Gran Canaria (LPA), Tenerife – South (TFS), Lanzarote (ACE) and La Palma (SPC).
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Estadísticas, Lufthansa mobilized 4,027,258 passengers and 3,736.91 tons of cargo in 2022 between Spain and Germany in 26,486 operations.
