Eurowings Bolsters Presence in Austria with New Graz Base

Eurowings has inaugurated its new base at Graz Airport (GRZ), Austria, where it will offer over 8,500 seats per week, according to Cirium. To augment operations at this Austrian hub, the leisure airline has stationed an Airbus A319 there.

Wolfgang Grimus, head of Graz Airport; Stefan Beveridge, managing director of Eurowings Europe; and representatives from Austrian politics and tourism attended the celebratory event.

The inaugural service, flight EW 4516, deployed an Airbus A319 registered as «9H-EXQ». The aircraft departed from Graz Airport at 11:07 local time and touched down at Hurghada International Airport (HRG) at 15:49, completing a journey of three hours and 49 minutes.

After Salzburg (SZG), Graz (GRZ) has become Eurowings’ second base in Austria and the eleventh in Europe. The carrier aims to leverage its central location and the based Airbus A319 to bolster connections to sought-after destinations in Southern Europe, marking another milestone in its pan-European expansion.

Wolfgang Grimus, Managing Director of Graz Airport, stated, «Eurowings, with its eleven destinations, including four new ones, aptly meets the needs of the Styrian economy and industry, offering vacationers an attractive route portfolio. We anticipate today’s deployment will instigate further expansion in the future«.

Eurowings Expands Summer 2023 Schedule at Graz

In its summer 2023 schedule, Eurowings plans to enhance operations to seven popular holiday destinations in Cyprus, Egypt, and Greece, including a nonstop flight to Palma de Mallorca (PMI). In Germany, the airline will ramp up services to Berlin (BER), Düsseldorf (DUS), and Hamburg (HAM). In addition, the carrier will launch new routes to the Canary Islands for the winter season, offering two weekly flights to Gran Canaria (LPA) and a weekly flight to Tenerife – South (TFS).

«Our Graz airport, one of the largest regional airports in the Alpe-Adria region, will soon offer Berlin a more extensive range of popular connections in Europe. Coupled with the forthcoming new connection from Hamburg, this will bring Northern Germany closer to Styria, making it even more appealing for business and tourism«, stated Wolfgang Malik, CEO of Holding Graz.

  • Chania, Greece (CHQ): once a week
  • Düsseldorf, Germany (DUS): five flights weekly

  • Hurghada, Egypt (HRG): twice weekly
  • Kos, Greece (KGS): twice a week
  • Larnaca, Cyprus (LCA): once a week
  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain (PMI): three flights weekly
  • Rhodes, Greece (RHO): three flights per week
  • Karpatos, Greece (AOK): one weekly flight
  • Berlin, Germany (BER): five flights a week.
