KLM Cityhopper, regional subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, reported that there will be “limited interventions” in its summer schedule due to “technical difficulties” with some of its Embraer E195-E2s.

According to Planespotters.net, five of the fifteen aircraft of the type in its fleet are temporarily out of service as a result of problems with their Pratt & Whitney engines. The flight schedule during the summer season will be affected, and this will be a challenge for the operator.

The announcement came against a backdrop of widespread delays and problems in supply chains and the performance of maintenance work on various powerplants.

In recent weeks, airlines around the world have faced shortages of engines and spare parts, especially for their latest-generation narrow-body aircraft. For its part, Pratt & Whitney faces its own challenges, as its suppliers struggle with a backlog of sub-component orders.

“KLM Cityhopper is in discussions with Embraer and engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney to find a solution to these problems, which certainly do not affect flight safety”, the carrier said in a press release.

According to the company, the leasing of additional regional aircraft will be extended for a longer period of time in order to add capacity as some of its E195-E2s are unavailable. It also stressed that schedule changes will be confirmed several weeks in advance to reduce disruption to its customers’ travel plans.

The Embraer E195-E2 is part of the E-Jet E2 family of aircraft, the Brazilian manufacturer’s latest narrow-body, medium-range development, and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines.
