Royal Jordanian Airlines, Jordan’s flag carrier, confirmed a combined order for eight Embraer E-Jet E2 family aircraft. The deal will see the introduction of four E190-E2 and four E195-E2 to its fleet from the last quarter of 2023.
Six of these airplanes (the four E190-E2 and two of the E195-E2) will come from lessor company Azorra’s order book, while the remaining two aircraft are part of the airline’s firm order placed with the Brazilian manufacturer, included as «undisclosed» in the fourth-quarter 2022 backlog.

Royal Jordanian extends tie-up with Embraer to modernise fleet
In October 2022, Royal Jordanian and Embraer signed a memorandum of understanding for the introduction of two models of the E-Jet E2 family. The operator had opted for this type of aircraft due to its performance and overall operational efficiency, as part of its fleet modernisation and expansion plan.
In this regard, the new airplanes will fit in with the carrier’s strategic objectives to increase its presence in the Levant and enhance its network of connections from Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) in Amman, its main hub.
The airline currently operates two E175 and two E195, which will enable it to reduce investment in crew training programmes and reduce spare parts procurement costs. The new aircraft will provide up to 25% fuel savings per flight and per seat compared to those currently in the fleet.
«Following extensive feasibility studies, Royal Jordanian selected Embraer’s E2 as the best fit for its financial objectives and network strategy», explained Samer Majali, the airline’s CEO.
«We are honored to be selected by Royal Jordanian Airlines to provide the next generation of regional aircraft, a central part of the airline’s major fleet modernization plan», said Arjan Meijer, CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. «The E2 family of advanced-generation jets offer the quietest, lowest polluting, and most fuel-efficient aircraft in the under 150-seat market», he added.
