United Airlines, as part of its ongoing expansion in the Atlantic, commenced a nonstop service between Washington and Berlin on May 25, 2023. This new service signifies the airline’s operations in three German cities from its second major transatlantic hub at Dulles International Airport, augmenting operations to Frankfurt and Munich.

The inaugural flight celebration included eminent personalities like Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH; Amy Gutmann, U.S. Ambassador to Germany; Kai Wegner, Acting Mayor of Berlin; Dietmar Woidke, Minister President of the State of Brandenburg; Thorsten Lettnin, Director of Sales Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Israel, United Airlines; Robert Rückel, Vice President of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with airport staff and local press.
Flight UA 234 was operated on a Boeing 767 registered as N76065. The flight took off from Dulles International Airport (IAD) at 18:26 local time and landed at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) at 08:07 the next day, after a journey of seven hours and 40 minutes.
«Berlin and Washington, DC are moving one step closer: after more than 20 years, a direct connection is once again available between the capital cities. The new direct route will not only simplify cultural and tourist exchange, but will also strengthen economic, scientific and commercial ties», said Kai Wegner, Acting Mayor of Berlin.

The route operates on a Boeing 767-400ER aircraft, and from August, will fly with the new 231-seat configuration in four classes (34 Polaris Business Class/24 Premium Plus/48 Economy Plus/125 Economy). Promotional fares are available from USD 973 roundtrip. This service offers connections to popular destinations such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Fort Myers.
United Airlines will offer 6,076 seats per week between the United States and Berlin during the summer season. The U.S. airline leads as the top transatlantic carrier at Brandenburg Airport in terms of seats per offered seat kilometer (ASK) according to Cirium.
