On June 3, 2013, Air Europa began operations from A Coruña airport. The company has established itself as one of the key operators in the region’s connectivity, both domestically and internationally. More than 2.2 million passengers have flown with Globalia’s airline and it maintains a constant growth at A Coruña airport.
The company’s base in A Coruña over the last ten years has proved to be an outstanding operational reference. In the domestic market, connections to Alicante, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca have become the most popular, while Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Brussels in Europe, and Miami, Lima and Santo Domingo in America are the most popular international destinations served by the company through its hub in Madrid.
Throughout this decade, Globalia’s airline has operated more than 11,200 round trips between A Coruña and Madrid, with a continuous schedule of four daily flights, except for the months of the pandemic that reduced its operations.
The company has gradually increased the number of seats offered, not only thanks to the increase in demand, but also to the process of modernization and unification of the fleet. All Air Europa’s operations at A Coruña are carried out on Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft with a capacity of 186 seats, which guarantees a greater number of seats. An average occupancy rate of 75% is expected for this year.
In 2022, Globalia’s airline handled more than 200,000 passengers to and from A Coruña. Seventy percent of these passengers flew direct between Madrid and A Coruña, while 9% connected to long-haul destinations.
In 2023, Air Europa will have a capacity of 520,000 seats, representing an increase of 46% compared to 2019 levels. This figure confirms the reestablishment of activity, the dynamism of the region and the import of Galicia in Spain’s airline industry.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Air Europa is the second largest airline in A Coruña in terms of seats per kilometer offered (ASK), only surpassed by the low cost airline operator, Vueling.
