As part of the development of the National System of International Airports, Aeropuertos Uruguay installed and put into operation at Durazno Airport a radar system with state-of-the-art technology that guarantees coverage of the entire national airspace.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Defense, Javier García; the Mayor of Durazno, Carmelo Vidalín; and authorities of Aeropuertos Uruguay.

The new radar, of the Spanish brand INDRA, is a monopulse secondary radar mode S (ADSB), which will cover the whole country from the International Airport of Durazno, Santa Bernardina.
The radar, which is already in operation, has technology prepared to detect aircraft within a radius of 250 nautical miles and to observe weather conditions. During the installation and programming stage, all personnel who will work with this state-of-the-art instrument, as well as air traffic controllers, were trained in Spain, and on-site tests were carried out.

In a joint effort with the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure, the new radar has already been integrated into Uruguay’s Radar Control Center, which integrates radar data in Uruguay.

The installation of the new radar is part of the modernization project of the Durazno International Airport, framed within the development of the National System of International Airports that the company is carrying out by renovating six airports throughout the country.
