United expands transpacific flights for winter 2023/2024

United Airlines Boeing 787-9

United is expanding its Asia-Pacific operations with a new nonstop connection between Manila, Philippines and the U.S. mainland. In addition, the airline will be adding more flights to Hong Kong, Tokyo and Taipei, all beginning in October.

In total, the airline will offer long-haul flights to 15 different international destinations in the Pacific this winter. Excluding scheduling to mainland China, United’s trans-Pacific network will be 50% larger than all U.S. carriers combined.

The airline continues to steadily expand its international network. Earlier this year, United made the largest South Pacific network expansion in aviation history, adding 40% more flights between the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand.

Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said: «United offers more flights to more destinations across the Pacific than all other U.S. airlines combined. United is the U.S. flag carrier and we are delighted to bring this new service to Manila, while expanding access to Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo.»

San Francisco – Manila, Philippines

Beginning October 29, United will begin service between San Francisco and Manila with daily flights operated on 350-seat Boeing 777-300ERs. The airline will be the only U.S. carrier with nonstop transpacific flights to the Philippines, and this connection will complement existing services from Manila to Guam and Palau.

Los Angeles – Hong Kong

Currently, United is the only airline with nonstop service to Hong Kong and will increase its operations with new service from Los Angeles beginning October 28. This flight will be operated daily on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. In total, by the 2023/2024 winter season, the airline will have three daily flights to Hong Kong from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Los Angeles – Tokyo/Narita

United continues to expand its operations in Japan with the reactivation of a daily flight between Los Angeles and Tokyo/Narita beginning October 28, which will be served by Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft. This connection will be complemented by the Tokyo/Haneda schedule, the airline will connect Los Angeles with the two main international airports of the Japanese capital.

More flights to Taipei

In addition to launching new routes, United will also increase its flights to Taiwan, effective October 29. The airline, currently the largest non-stop carrier from the United States to Taiwan with its daily flight between San Francisco and Taipei operated on a Boeing 777-300ER, will now fly to this destination twice daily year-round on a new year-round service on a Boeing 777-300ER.

South Pacific expansion

For the 2023/2024 winter season, United will have a schedule of 66 weekly flights between the United States and Australia/New Zealand. Highlights include:

  • The only airline to offer nonstop flights to Christchurch, New Zealand from the United States, with new service from San Francisco.
  • The carrier consolidates its position as the largest U.S. carrier in Auckland by adding four weekly flights from Los Angeles.
  • The leading U.S.-Brisbane carrier with a new route from Los Angeles.
