Eurowings expands partnership with Smartwings

Eurowings strengthens its Prague base and intensifies its cooperation with Smartwings. Within the framework of a bilateral codeshare agreement, connections made by Smartwings from the Czech capital can be booked with the German leisure airline’s flight codes.

The start of the codeshare collaboration between the partner airlines includes flights to Tel Aviv (Israel), Valencia (Spain), Split (Croatia) and Nice (France). The route offering is expected to be gradually expanded.

Eurowings flights from its Prague base will continue to be accessible using Smartwings flight numbers and will be marketed through the company’s website and other regular channels. The first phase of the code-share agreement between the two airlines started in March 2022.

The cooperation between Eurowings and Smartwings strengthens our position at our European base in Prague and enables us to offer our customers even more travel options from the Czech Republic. Our partnership with Smartwings, which is well established in the Czech domestic market, reinforces our pan-European growth strategy,” said Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings.

Passenger volume in Prague grows by more than 30%.

During the first half of 2023, Eurowings recorded around 300,000 passengers to and from the Czech capital. This means that the airline managed to increase its passenger volume in the Czech Republic by more than 30% year-on-year in 2023.

The German leisure airline connects Prague with more than 20 non-stop destinations in major metropolises and popular holiday regions. In addition, a new service to Agadir with three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays) is being added for the winter schedule as of November 1, 2023. Eurowings becomes the only airline to offer non-stop services between the Czech Republic and Morocco.

Eurowings has quickly established itself in the Czech market.

We look back on a successful start to our Prague base, which we have steadily developed over the past two years and will continue to expand,” Bischof added.

Following the establishment of its base in the capital of the Czech Republic, the Lufthansa Group airline has rapidly strengthened its position in the Czech market and has considerably expanded the scope of its services throughout Central Europe.

Eurowings currently has three Airbus A320 aircraft based in Prague, including local crews. Flights are operated by Eurowings Europe, the German leisure airline’s pan-European flight subsidiary.

Eurowings continues to recruit at its Prague base

The solid recovery in the travel industry continues to support Eurowings’ human resources department, which is expected to see the Lufthansa Group airline reach or even surpass the 5,000-employee mark next year. The company is also looking for pilots and flight attendants at its European bases, including Prague.
