With travel demand mirroring the peaks of the pre-COVID-19 era, Japan Airlines is ramping up its capacity for the upcoming winter season. The airline aims to cater to the surge in travelers by increasing its flights to sought-after destinations across Asia and the US. Additionally, a brand-new addition to its widebody fleet is in the offing.
Rising International Flight Frequencies
The global market’s enthusiastic revival, coupled with lifted travel bans and a buoyant economy, has fueled an upswing in international travel. Answering to this heightened demand, Japan Airlines is augmenting its services on these routes:
- Tokyo/Narita to Hong Kong: From 3 to 5 flights weekly.
- Osaka/Kansai to Los Angeles: Now 5 flights a week, up from 4.
- Osaka/Kansai to Honolulu: An uptick from 4 to 5 weekly flights.
- Nagoya/Chubu to Honolulu: A boost from 3 to 4 flights weekly.
Fleet Modernization with Airbus A350-1000
In a move to rejuvenate its fleet, Japan Airlines will welcome the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000. This aircraft is set to make its maiden voyage this winter, eventually phasing out the Boeing 777-300ER on the airline’s flagship routes. The A350-1000’s debut on the Tokyo/Haneda – New York JFK circuit is slated for late November, with detailed announcements, including new cabin products, dropping on October 2nd.
Domestic Route Enhancements
Acknowledging the domestic market’s revival, Japan Airlines is fine-tuning its domestic schedule based on demand projections. A highlight includes the initiation of services from Sapporo (Okadama) via the Hokkaido Air System (HAC), kicking off on October 25th.
- Sapporo (Okadama) to Nemuro Nakashibetsu: A brand-new route.
- Osaka/Itami to Izumo: Rising from 4 to 5 daily flights, effective October 29th.
- Osaka/Itami to Kagoshima: An increase to 8 daily flights from 7, starting December 1st.
