Air Canada expands its transatlantic network and launches new route between Montreal and Madrid

Air Canada is expanding its operations in Spain with a new route between Montreal and Madrid starting next May, as part of its expanded international flight schedule for the summer of 2024. The airline expects to operate 100% of its transatlantic capacity at pre-pandemic levels, taking advantage of increased passenger demand.

Air Canada experienced a tremendous uptick in international flights last summer, especially on transatlantic routes, and we expect Europe to remain popular next year. In anticipation of this, we are expanding our flight schedule to offer customers more choice and flexibility as they begin planning their 2024 vacations,” said Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President, Revenue and Network Planning.

New route between Montreal and Spain

Air Canada’s new non-stop connection will be the only year-round service between Montreal and the Spanish capital, complementing the airline’s operations between Toronto and Madrid. The route will be operated on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with 255 seats in three cabins (20 Signature Class/21 Premium Economy/214 Economy).

Flight schedule

  • Montreal – Madrid Flight AC 834 YUL 20:30 – MAD 09:40+1 Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Madrid – Montreal Flight AC 835 MAD 13:15 – YUL 15:20 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to its services to Madrid, the company also operates flights from Toronto and Montreal to Barcelona. In total, Air Canada will have a schedule of four routes between Canada and Spain for next summer.

Air Canada’s transatlantic service increases

Air Canada for the 2024 summer season consolidates its position as the largest Canadian airline in the transatlantic market by operating up to 51 routes to cities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India. The hubs in Toronto and Montreal will rank respectively third and fifth in North America in terms of transatlantic seats.

“We are pleased to announce a significant expansion of our service offering to Italy, with three daily flights combined from Toronto and Montreal to Rome, as well as daily services to Milan and Venice. This reinforces the importance of Italy in Air Canada’s global network, as we are the largest airline between Canada and Italy, and the only airline connecting the two countries year-round,” added Galardo.

In the face of strong leisure demand, Air Canada will expand frequencies to popular Mediterranean destinations and bring forward the start of several seasonal routes for the summer.
