Air India - Boeing 787

Melbourne Airport announces that it will welcome non-stop flights from Mumbai for the first time. Air India has confirmed the inception of this groundbreaking route from December.

Starting 15 December, the airline will offer three flights per week with a potential increase based on growing demand. The service will utilize the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft and will bolster Air India’s current daily flights between Melbourne and Delhi.

Melbourne and India: A Flourishing Relationship

In the last financial year, Melbourne was the Australian city of choice for Indian visitors. Over 433,000 Indian residents traveled through Victoria’s international gateway within 12 months, up to June.

Commenting on this significant development, Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation, Jim Parashos, emphasized the advantages of open skies agreements. He mentioned the notable increase of Indian visitors in recent months and added that the new service would bolster the bond between the two nations.

Melbourne, housing Australia’s largest Indian population, serves as an essential link bridging cultural ties. With the latest data indicating Mumbai as Melbourne’s vast international market lacking non-stop flights, this service is expected to gain immense popularity in both directions.

The scheduled departure for Air India’s flights from Melbourne to Mumbai is at 8pm.
