As part of its winter schedule, after almost four years Lufthansa is bringing the Airbus A380 back into service on the Los Angeles and Bangkok routes, which were operated with this aircraft type prior to the pandemic. During the summer season, the German airline flew the superjumbo to Boston and New York JFK.
Back to the West Coast
Lufthansa is bringing the superjumbo back to the U.S. West Coast with nonstop service between Munich and Los Angeles with daily flights. The A380 will replace the Airbus A340-600 operation, increasing seat capacity by 80%.
Flight LH 452 was operated on Airbus registered D-AIMN and christened «Deutschland»: the aircraft took off from Munich Airport at 12:59 local time and landed at Los Angeles International Airport at 15:14, after 11 hours and 15 minutes.
Strengthening capacity in Thailand
As of October 28, Lufthansa also resumes operation with the Airbus A380 to Bangkok, bolstering seat capacity between the Thai capital and Munich. The airline resumes its services with the superjumbo on this route due to strong demand, being the only company to fly with this type of aircraft between Germany and Thailand.
Lufthansa has been operating between Germany and Thailand for 64 years and has chosen Bangkok as the first destination in the Asia-Pacific region to resume A380 service. With the reinstatement of the superjumbo on this route, the German airline will once again offer First Class service in Thailand.
«We are increasing capacity between Thailand and Germany due to strong demand and are delighted to offer Thai passengers a direct service to Munich on board the popular A380. We are the only airline group to operate the A380 non-stop between Thailand and Europe, signifying our strong commitment to the Thai market,» said Anlee Do, Managing Director Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and Mekong Region, Lufthansa Group.
Thailand is one of Lufthansa Group’s most important markets in Asia-Pacific, the German carrier’s airlines Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian offer daily flights to Bangkok from their hubs in Munich, Zurich and Vienna.
Return of the A380s
Due to strong passenger demand and delays in aircraft deliveries, Lufthansa took the decision to reactivate the Airbus A380s. The first four aircraft were reintroduced this year, by 2024 it is estimated to have six units in the fleet and by 2025 to have eight superjumbos active.
For the 2024 summer season, Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 schedule will include services from Munich to Washington-Dulles, Delhi, Boston, New York JFK and Los Angeles.
