Emirates is celebrating a decade of service on its fifth freedom flight between Milan-Malpensa Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, moving more than 1.8 million passengers on this popular route since its launch ten years ago.
The Gulf carrier’s first service was performed on October 1, 2013: the flight was operated on a Boeing 777-300ER. Subsequently, in June 2015, the carrier added the Airbus A380 to the schedule for this route, which it has operated continuously for eight years. For the 2023 winter schedule though, Emirates will fly between Milan and New York Emirates on Boeing 777s again.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Italian National Agency for Civil Aviation (ENAC), 875,232 passengers were mobilized between Milan and New York JFK in 2019: the most important intercontinental route in Italy. Emirates currently competes in the segment with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, ITA Airways and NEOS.
Emirates started this service as a result of the huge demand between Italy and the United States, the daily flight has improved connectivity between the two nations over the last decade. More than 6,000 flights in both directions have helped meet demand on an underserved route, boosting the commercial and tourism sector.
The Gulf carrier has moved more than 37,000 tons of cargo between Milan and New York in the last ten years, with exports from Italy ranging from clothing to food and jewelry. From the United States, garments, textiles, spare parts and chemicals.
In addition, Emirates Sky Cargo facilitates the export of nearly 4,000 tons between the two cities. With the non-stop service between Milan and New York, the airline caters to the strong demand from Italian diaspora, students, business travelers and tourists between Italy and New York.
Emirates also offers several transatlantic services between the Americas and Europe, connecting Athens and New York/Newark, as well as a flight between Barcelona and Mexico City.
