LOT Polish Airlines, Poland’s flag carrier, has announced it will fly a seasonal operation between Rzeszów and Milan/Malpensa. Flights in the route, to be operated weekly, will start on November 4th, with the last scheduled rotation on March 23, 2024.
The flights will be operated on Saturday evenings by the airline’s Embraer 175 fleet, which can carry up to 88 passengers. Tickets are already available on LOT’s sales channels.
«Milan is the second Italian destination on offer at our airport and is very demanded, so I am convinced that LOT’s planes will be filled with travelers», stated Adam Hamryszczak, the president of Rzeszów’s Jasionka airport, in a press release.
Krzysztof Moczulski, LOT’s spokesman, stated that «Milan is not only the financial capital of Italy or the city of fashion – it is also a great place for a winter ski trip. Montecampione or Champoluc in the Aosta Valley may be less known to Poles, but they are definitely worth visiting. This connection is part of the strengthening of LOT’s position at regional airports announced in the strategy» recently announced by the company.
Rzeszów Airport, according to Cirium’s Diio Mi application, will count with four airlines in the first quarter of 2024: LOT, to Milan, Warsaw and a weekly service to Newark from the end of March. The other three are Lufthansa, connected to its Munich hub, Ryanair, flying to six airports in the British Isles, and Wizz Air, with a rotation from its Rome/Fiumicino base.
LOT’s flight to Malpensa is likely an attempt at increasing aircraft and crew productivity during the Winter season in Europe, characterized by lower demand.
The airline can thus have an attempt at generating revenue with the Embraer 175 — which would otherwise be on the ground — in a day with less demand for the Warsaw-Rzeszów segment. This is particularly denoted by the very low fares, starting from EUR30.08 (taxes included) in the Poland-Italy direction, which demonstrates an effort at stimulating demand.
