As part of its strategic expansion in the United States, Viva Aerobus is expanding its offerings in California with a new nonstop service between Monterrey and Oakland starting in the 2024 summer season. The low-cost airline will be the second Mexican carrier in Oakland and this new route will be the only nonstop connection between the capital of Nuevo Leon and the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition to this new service, Viva Aerobus’ current schedule in California offers 23 weekly flights and a capacity of 38,000 seats per month. The Mexican low-cost carrier operates from Los Angeles with service from Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey.
«The Monday and Friday flights between Oakland and Monterrey will target both business and leisure travelers. OAK is proud to soon be home to the only nonstop service between the San Francisco Bay Area and this popular and growing destination in Mexico,» said Craig Simon, Acting Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland.
Monterrey is Oakland International Airport’s fifth Mexican destination, complementing Volaris’ existing service from Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Morelia and Mexico City. In total, 11,372 weekly seats will be offered between Mexico City and Oakland by October.

- Monterrey – Oakland Flight VB 740 MTY 09:35 – OAK 12:40 Monday and Friday
- Oakland – Monterrey Flight VB 741 OAK 14:10 – MTY 18:40 Monday and Friday
The route will be operated on Airbus A320neo aircraft with a capacity of 186 seats in a single configuration and promotional fares are available starting at $85 each way. Passengers arriving from Oakland can also connect to the airline’s domestic network at the Monterrey airport.
Viva Aerobus’ U.S. network has service to Los Angeles, New York JFK, Las Vegas, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston-Intercontinental, Chicago O’Hare, San Antonio, Cincinnati and soon to be added Orlando, Miami, Denver, Oakland and Austin.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), in the January-August period, Viva Aerobus mobilized 1,469,041 passengers and 546.7 international tons.
