Luis Gallego, International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO, has been recognized with the 2023 Business Leader of the Year Award by the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce. This award is a nod to Gallego’s achievements in the aviation sector, particularly his leadership amidst the industry’s challenging times.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors commended Gallego’s extensive experience in aviation and his pivotal role in propelling IAG to the forefront of the airline industry. Notably, Gallego has been «instrumental in IAG’s progression towards sustainability, committing to net-zero emissions by 2050 and the use of 10% sustainable aviation fuel by 2030», it stated.
Under Gallego’s leadership, IAG has embraced innovation and new technologies, including significant investments in sustainable fuel and partnerships focusing on hydrogen fuel development.
During the award ceremony, Alan Solomont, Chairman of the Chamber and former U.S. Ambassador to Spain, highlighted Gallego’s visionary impact on the aviation industry and broader economy. Gallego’s approach is not only reshaping IAG but also contributing to stronger economic and societal structures.
The Business Leader of the Year Award, presented to Gallego by Solomont, honors individuals who significantly contribute to the economic growth and business relations between Spain and the United States. The event saw participation from leading figures across various sectors from both nations.
