WINAIR has received its second ATR 42-500. The new aircraft will enter service in mid-November as part of the winter schedule. The airline, based at Princess Juliana Airport in Saint Marteen, continues its fleet renewal process.

The new ATR 42-500 bears the registration PJ-WIW and joins the other turboprop received in June this year. The aircraft is 12 years old and previously belonged to the Ecuadorian airline TAME. It was retired when the company ceased operations in 2020. In April of this year, it was sent to Medellin for maintenance and retrofit work, reducing its original capacity from 50 passengers to 48 passengers.

Hans van de Velde, CEO of WINAIR, expressed: «We are very pleased to welcome our second ATR 42-500 to the fleet. The first ATR has performed exceptionally well since its launch in July, and our customers have been impressed with the comfort and punctuality of the aircraft. With the addition of the second ATR, we can offer our customers more frequencies to our destinations, especially Curaçao, Aruba, and Bonaire, which will see an increase in flights.»

«We couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication of our project team. We are grateful for the continuous support from the SMCAA team,» he added.

WINAIR operates a fleet of six aircraft: two ATR 42-500s and four De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otters.
