Virgin Atlantic cancels Austin route and boosts Miami operations

Virgin Atlantic will increase its operations between London-Heathrow and Miami International Airport for the 2024 summer season. The service increases from 10 to 14 flights per week. The increase is possible due to the cancellation of the Austin route, freeing up a Boeing 787.

According to data obtained by Aviocionline from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) 1,331,746 passengers travelled between London and Miami in 2019. The airline competes in this market with low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic and legacy carriers American Airlines and British Airways.

The new route will offer 7,308 seats per week, an increase of more than 40% in capacity compared to 2023 levels.

London to Miami flight schedule

From 31 March 2024

  • London – Miami Flight VS005 LHR 09:50 – MIA 14:40 daily flights.
  • London – Miami Flight VS117 LHR 12:45 – + 17:10 daily flights
  • Miami – London Flight VS006 MIA 16:15 – LHR 06:30+1 daily flights.
  • Miami – London Flight VS118 MIA 20:35 – LHR 10:10+1 daily flights.

VS 005/006 flights will be operated on 264-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft in three classes (31 Upper Class/48 Premium Economy/ 185 Economy) and VS 117/VS 118 services were operated on 258-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft (31 Upper Class/35 Premium Economy/ 192 Economy). Promotional fares are available from $526 each way.

Virgin Atlantic’s schedule between the UK and Florida

  • Edinburgh-Orlando: twice weekly flights on Airbus A350-1000
  • London-Orlando: two daily flights on Airbus A350-1000,
  • London-Miami; 14 weekly flights on Airbus A330T and Boeing 787.
  • London-Tampa: daily flights on Airbus A330-300 and A330-900neo.
  • Manchester-Orlando: 12 weekly flights on Airbus A350-1000 and Airbus A330-300.

In total, Virgin Atlantic will offer more than 30,000 seats per week between the UK and Florida by the 2024 summer season.
