To meet the demand of the domestic market and anticipating a long duration of Western sanctions, Russia is betting on its national airplanes.
Rostec plans to manufacture more than 500 aircraft by 2030, including 270 Irkut MC-21 aircraft, 142 Sukhoi Superjet regional jets, and 115 Tupolev Tu-214 airplanes. This was announced by the head of the state corporation, Sergey Chemezov, during a meeting with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, as reported by the TASS agency.
“We have major civil projects, especially the production of civil aircraft for civil aviation. We are paying great attention to this. According to the approved program, by 2030, we plan to produce more than 500 aircraft of various types: 270 of the MC-21 model, 142 of the Superjet 100, and 115 Tu-214 jets,” said Chemezov.

According to him, currently, 18 MC-21 aircraft are in different stages of production. In 2024, serial production and delivery of 6 of these aircraft to “Aeroflot” are planned. “We must gradually increase the volumes, and by 2029, we intend to produce up to 72 aircraft per year,” added Chemezov.
Interestingly, Vladimir Putin himself had recently stated that his country’s industry would produce twice the number now announced.
According to Putin, the Russian industry plans to produce the MC-21 aircraft and also transition to Russian PD engines in some aircraft, including the more powerful PD-35. In addition, the president stated that the Il-96-400 aircraft, which recently made its first flight, is already “in the process of work in the cargo version.”
