Smartwings received its ninth Boeing 737 MAX, which arrived at Václav Havel Airport directly from Seattle. The new aircraft is registered as OK-SWJ, and the airline anticipates receiving four more aircraft of the same model in 2024.

The new 737-8 landed in Prague today, Tuesday the 14th, and on the upcoming Saturday the 16th, it will embark on its inaugural commercial flight from the capital of the Czech Republic to Las Palmas, on the island of Gran Canaria.

The airline received its first 737-8 in late January 2018. These planes are configured to carry 189 passengers and are deployed on the company’s longest routes, including Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Canary Islands, Salalah, Muscat, Cape Verde, among others.

Summer 2024

The airline will offer direct flights from Czech airports to over 73 destinations in the summer 2024 flight program. There will be new regular flights to São Miguel in the Azores, starting from April 26, 2024, twice a week.

It will also feature flights to Athens starting from May 31, twice a week, and to Brindisi starting from June 3, twice a week. Smartwings will operate flights not only from the Czech Republic but also from Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary during summer 2024.

A Milestone for Smartwings and its 737 MAX

Smartwings was the first airline in the world to successfully complete a flight to Antarctica in January 2022. In the coming days, the airline expects to conduct the eighth flight to Troll Airstrip, followed by more flights to the white continent in January, February, and March of 2024.
