A scene that years ago would have been considered distopian was seen in Dubai, with several Airbus A380 aircraft dismantled in the desert. The image is of unknown authorship, but was recently taken at Dubai World Central Airport (DWC), which is Dubai’s secondary airport, designed to be the hub connecting East to West.

Today, however, the airport is used mainly for cargo flights and by aircraft due for maintenance in its workshops, with only a few commercial passenger flights.

And with Emirates phasing out its fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft, the world’s largest airliner, but with no airline interested in the model, it was eventually sent for scrapping.
