As a result of the reiterated quality and production issues that haunt the manufacturer, Boeing announced the immediate appointment of Admiral Kirkland H. Donald, U.S. Navy (Ret.), as a special advisor to Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun.
Admiral Donald, along with a team of external experts, will undertake a thorough evaluation of Boeing’s quality management system for commercial airplanes. This assessment will encompass quality programs and practices in Boeing’s manufacturing facilities and its oversight of commercial supplier quality. His findings and recommendations will be directed to Calhoun and the Aerospace Safety Committee of Boeing’s Board of Directors.
Donald, a leader in Safety and Quality systems
«Admiral Donald is a recognized leader in ensuring the integrity of complex and critical safety and quality systems globally,» said Calhoun. «He will conduct an independent and comprehensive review, providing actionable recommendations to enhance our oversight of quality in our factories and throughout our extended commercial airplane production system.»
Admiral Donald’s 37-year career as a nuclear-trained submarine officer includes serving as the Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Under his leadership, the program achieved global recognition for reactor safety and reliability. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Board for Huntington Ingalls Industries.
