The Greek airline SKY Express has placed an order for two ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft. With this order, the airline increases its -600 series fleet from six to eight planes, in addition to the existing six in the 42-500 series, reaching a total of 14 turboprops from the French manufacturer.

SKY Express is not stopping here and has expressed the desire to further modernize its fleet in 2024. With these new aircraft, small Greek communities and tourists will benefit from the connectivity provided by the airline. The ATR 72-600 has the capacity to operate at airports with short runways or low infrastructure, carrying 70 passengers.

Konstantinos Iliakis, CEO of SKY Express, stated: «As we continue to expand our regional fleet, we are delighted to operate the youngest ATR fleet in the region and have commitments for further standardization and fleet improvement in early Q1 2024.»

«We are offering our passengers comfort and reliability while reducing CO₂ emissions and supporting Greek tourism and the economy,» he added.

On the other hand, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, CEO of ATR, expressed: «SKY express once again places its trust in ATR for the expansion of its fleet, investing in the most fuel-efficient, versatile, and cost-effective regional aircraft to open new opportunities for both Greek communities and tourists.»

«The growth of SKY Express also illustrates the dynamism of the regional market, the ongoing success of ATR in Europe, and the shared commitment to maintaining essential connectivity while significantly reducing emissions,» Tarnaud Laude added.

SKY Express has a diverse fleet in terms of capacity, operating ATR 42 and 72 aircraft, as well as Airbus A320ceo, A320neo, and A321neo jets, totaling 24 aircraft. As of today, the airline has 4 ATR 42-500, 13 ATR 72-600 (including the first of the two ordered ATRs), 1 Airbus A320ceo, 8 A320neo, and 2 A321neo.

Their main base is located at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (ATH) in Athens, with two secondary bases at Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis Airport (HER) and Thessaloniki Makedonia Airport (SKG). From these points, their destination network extends to 49 cities within Greece and the rest of Europe.
