United Airlines is set to enhance its international flight operations by introducing daily nonstop flights from Guam to Tokyo Haneda International Airport starting May 1. This new service aims to provide a more direct and convenient connection between Guam and Japan’s capital, leveraging Haneda’s closer location to the city center. The announcement comes as an extension of United’s already schedule of 32 weekly flights between Guam and Tokyo-Narita.
«As we grow our global network, we’re always looking for opportunities to give our customers more choice and strengthen links between countries. This route – connecting Tokyo’s most convenient airport with our unique Guam hub – accomplishes just that», said Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances. Quayle also acknowledged the support from the Department of Transportation, highlighting the route’s significance to customers and stakeholders alike.
The airline plans to deploy a Boeing 737-800 for the new route, which accommodates 166 passengers, including 16 in business class. The flight schedule is tailored for convenience, with the outbound flight from Guam set to depart at 19:00 local time and arrive in Haneda at 22:00 the same day. The return flight from Haneda is scheduled for a 23:55 departure, reaching Guam at 04:45 the following day.
United Airlines boasts a dominant presence in Guam, operating as the largest airline with over 87 weekly flights to 14 destinations. The airline’s history in Guam spans over 55 years, marking it as a pivotal hub in the Pacific region. United is the sole carrier offering direct flights from Guam to key Japanese cities such as Osaka, Fukuoka, and Nagoya, in addition to servicing routes to the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau.
With the addition of the Guam-Haneda route, United will run six daily flights from Haneda, connecting to major U.S. cities including New York/Newark, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The airline also maintains a significant presence at Tokyo’s Narita airport, with 10 daily flights covering various U.S. and Pacific destinations.
