LATAM will launch a new economy class interior on its next Dreamliner

The airline LATAM is about to receive another Boeing 787 Dreamliner and has decided to launch a new economy class on this aircraft. Manufactured in 2017 for Norwegian Air, which operated it until 2020. Subsequently, the South American airline acquired these planes and will adjust their seat configurations.

As reported by our media partner AEROIN, the next unit that LATAM will incorporate is the 787-9 that previously flew with Norwegian under registration LN-LNP. After being returned to the lessor, it flew with the registration 9H-LNP from Bordeaux – where it was stored – to Abu Dhabi. In the United Arab Emirates, the aircraft is undergoing maintenance, painting, and seat reconfiguration at Etihad Airways Engineering. Martín Schwarzenberg, Interior Director at LATAM, shared images of the company’s new Dreamliner. The aircraft has not yet been assigned a registration, but it is scheduled to fly on all LATAM long-haul routes.

The airline highlighted several innovations in this new configuration in a statement. For example, they will switch from fabric to eco-leather seats. Other improvements include:

  • New eco-leather seat covers for the economy class. The design will be completely new but inspired by the previous generation.
  • A new interactive map, Panasonic’s Arc, offering a unique view of destinations with details about landmarks and streets.
  • Economy class passengers can now connect their own headphones via Bluetooth.

It is still unclear when the aircraft will be put into operation or on which routes, just as it is uncertain when the company’s other planes will adopt this new standard.

On the other hand, LATAM becomes the first group of airlines in South America to offer Disney+ content in its in-flight entertainment service, LATAM Play. The agreement with Disney Entertainment provides free access to over 50 movies, series episodes, and other content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic for passengers.

The arrival of Disney+ offers free, exclusive, varied, and high-quality content,» emphasized Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers for LATAM Airlines Group. Disney+ content joins that of HBO Max and Paramount+. In total, LATAM offers more than 170 movies, 550 series episodes, 1,000 songs, and children’s and reading content for passengers. This year, the airline aims to expand its content offering by over 50%.
