Hainan Airlines boosts its long-haul offering by resuming services to Vienna Airport with non-stop flights from Shenzhen. The airline suspended operations to the Austrian capital in February 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, this service will boost business and tourism between China and Austria.
“Hainan Airlines, one of China’s leading airlines, is returning to Vienna Airport. After a four-year break, it is again possible to take off directly to the metropolis of Shenzhen. The Far East is an important market for Vienna Airport, and the resumption of flights by Hainan Airlines is a gratifying sign for the resurgence of tourism and business in Austria and China. We are very pleased to be able to renew our good cooperation with Hainan Airlines,” said Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
Shenzhen is a high-tech Southern Chinese metropolis with some 17 million inhabitants and companies such as Siemens, Huawei, Microsoft, Philips, IBM, Samsung and Panasonic have established their headquarters in Shenzhen. This, in turn, reinforces the city’s role as a major technology hub.

Starts May 29, 2024.
- Shenzhen – Vienna Flight HU 789 SZX 20:05 – VIE 07:55 Wednesday and Saturday.
- Vienna – Shenzhen Flight HU 790 VIE 11:05 – SZX 04:00+1 Wednesday and Saturday.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will operate the route, and passengers can connect to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Kunming, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and other Chinese cities.
