The branch line will feature eight stations named Gambetta, Canta Callao, Bocanegra, Aeropuerto, El Olivar, Quilca, Morales Duárez, and Carmen de la Legua, situated along Faucett Avenue. The Gambetta station, the first on the branch line, has already achieved 54% progress in civil works – earthworks and structures. The Quilca station has been selected as the most suitable location for the construction of an underground tunnel, linking the existing system with the new terminal of Jorge Chávez International Airport. The airport concessionaire, Lima Airport Partners, has allocated an area within the new airport facilities to serve as a station for the subway system.
Future Prospects
The MTC estimates that the entire branch line will be operational within four years. The total investment exceeds $1 billion. This transportation system will feature a fleet of seven trains with 42 fully automated cars, operating without human intervention. According to projections, passengers will be able to travel from Gambetta station to Carmen de la Legua station in 11 minutes. Currently, this journey takes between 30 and 45 minutes by bus.
