United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), part of the Russian State Corporation Rostec, has resumed the flight testing program of the Ilyushin Il-114-300, including the first flight of the aircraft’s second prototype.
The flight was piloted by a crew composed of the Chief Commander, Chief Pilot, and Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation Sergei Sukhar, the Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation Igor Zinov, and the 1st Class Flight Test Engineer Oleg Gryazev. The flight lasted 40 minutes, reaching altitudes of up to 900 meters and speeds of up to 230 km/h.
“The flight proceeded without incidents, the systems and equipment operated correctly, and the flight program was satisfactorily completed,” stated the crew commander.
Before this flight, the aircraft underwent rigorous ground tests, including workshop and aerodrome tests. Additionally, as part of the flight testing program, taxiing and high-speed tests were conducted.
The Project
The Il-114-300 is manufactured with Russian components, produced in collaboration with various UAC companies. The design documentation has been converted to digital format, allowing integrated work among project participants.
Power plant
The IL-114-300 is equipped with the Russian TV7-117ST-01 engine, modified to suit the aircraft’s needs. Additionally, a new auxiliary power unit TA 14-114 has been installed, ensuring autonomy during maintenance operations and flight preparation at under-equipped aerodromes. “The TV7-117ST-01 engine is powerful, reliable, and easy to maintain. Designers have worked diligently to improve its performance characteristics,” stated Vadim Badekha, CEO of UEC.This engine, developed by ODK-Klimov in Saint Petersburg, was certified in December 2022 and, according to the manufacturer, outperforms its foreign counterparts.
The IL-114-300 made its maiden flight on March 30, coinciding with the 130th anniversary of the birth of renowned aeronautical designer Sergei Ilyushin. Under his leadership, numerous aircraft were developed that have been essential to both the military and civil aviation fleet of Russia.
