From July 1 to December 18, Aeroméxico will suspend its regular flights between Mexico City and Quito.
This was reported by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador through a press release, detailing that the measure was taken by the company due to the flight’s occupancy levels, which averaged 71%.
They also clarified that Aeroméxico will protect passengers with tickets to fly on dates after June 30, whose compliance will be monitored by the organization.
The fact that the information emerged from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works is notable in the context of the diplomatic rupture between Ecuador and Mexico, following an unprecedented incident in early April when Ecuador police forces stormed the Mexican embassy to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas.
Aeroméxico operates four weekly flights on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft between Mexico City and Quito, representing a capacity of around 5,000 seats per month.
The airline’s South American network also includes Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Lima, and Medellín.
