Avelo Airlines is celebrating its third anniversary of its first flight from Burbank Airport in Los Angeles to Sonoma County Airport in the White Bay Area. When Avelo began operations on April 28, 2021, it became the first new airline operator in the United States in nearly 15 years, ushering in a new era of convenient, low-fare air service.
Since 2021, Avelo has:
- Flown more than 4.6 million Customers.
- Operated more than 36,000 flights
- Expanded to 52 destinations
- Established more than 77 routes
- Distinguished itself as one of the most reliable airlines in the U.S.
- Achieved two consecutive profitable quarters (Q4 2023 and Q1 2024)
- Grew to 1,000 crewmembers (employees)
- Increased to six aircraft bases
- A fleet of 16 new-generation Boeing 737s.

Avelo when it began operations in April 2021 its network was comprised of 11 destinations on the West Coast. Currently, the airline offers 52 destinations to 23 states and Puerto Rico. Avelo’s growth in destinations is reflected in its increase in routes. In the past three years, Avelo has expanded its network from 10 to 77 routes.
In the next two months, Avelo will inaugurate 17 new routes, including 10 new destinations: Albany, NY (via ALB); Atlanta, GA (ATL); Charlotte / Concord, NC (USA); Destin / Fort Walton Beach, FL (VPS); Houston, TX (HOU); Knoxville, TN (TYS); Orlando / Lakeland, FL (LAL); Miami, FL (MIA); St. Louis, MO (STL); and Traverse City, MI (TVC).
Avelo recently opened its sixth base at Sonoma County Airport (STS) in the Bay Area, which the airline has operated since its inaugural flight. In 2023, the airline achieved the lowest flight cancellation rate (0.2%) in the U.S. airline industry and ranks number two in on-time performance.
Avelo’s aircraft fleet began with three Boeing Next Generation aircraft. Currently, the airline’s fleet has reached 16 aircraft (nine 189-seat 737-800s and seven 149-seat 737-700s). The airline expects to expand the fleet with four additional aircraft by the end of 2024.
