Amid Venezuelan Flight Restrictions, Copa Airlines Launches New Flights to Cúcuta on Colombian Border

Copa Airlines - Cúcuta

After announcing the suspension of its operations in Venezuela since the regime of Nicolás Maduro has prohibited flights connecting that country with Panama and the Dominican Republic starting Wednesday, July 31, at 8:00 PM, Copa Airlines will increase the frequency of its services to Cúcuta, located on the Colombian border and a regular connection hub for Venezuelans that need to travel abroad.

According to the reservation system, the company has added four additional flights for the coming week:

  • August 3
    • Flight CM 883 PTY 09:16 – 11:01 CUC
    • Flight CM 885 CUC 12:06 – 13:55 PTY
  • August 4, 6, and 8
    • Flight CM 490 PTY 11:36 – 13:21 CUC
    • Flight CM 491 CUC 15:00 – 16:49 PTY

The four flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, adding 664 additional seats. Prices from Cúcuta to Panama start at USD 206 and vice versa from USD 180.

Copa regularly operates four weekly flights to Cúcuta (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) with Boeing 737-700 and -800 aircraft. The suspension of Copa Airlines flights to Venezuela affects approximately 6,000 passengers weekly, as Tocumen is a key hub for connections throughout the Americas.

Since it is still not possible to determine how long the measure adopted by the Venezuelan government will last, Copa Airlines will offer the following options to passengers with flights scheduled after July 31:

  • A date and/or origin/destination change within the same region at no additional cost.
  • Trip cancellation keeping the ticket value as credit for a future travel date.
  • Refund for unused and partially used tickets. You can manage your request at copaair.com.

The airline clarified that due to the high volume of affected passengers, the refund process will take longer than usual.
