Etihad Airways Expands Spain Flights: 34% Seat Capacity Increase in 2025

Etihad Airways will increase its flights to Spain in 2025 as part of the company’s network expansion announced today, which includes ten new destinations, focusing on the introduction of Airbus A321neo (LR). This new model will replace wide-body aircraft on certain routes, allowing for increased frequencies to other long-haul destinations.

The airline, headquartered in Abu Dhabi (AUH), connects the capital of the United Arab Emirates with three Spanish destinations: Barcelona (BCN), Madrid (MAD), and, during the summer season, Málaga (AGP).

In 2025, Etihad Airways will increase its flights to Spain from 23 to 33 weekly, representing a 34% increase in seat availability. The company operates with Boeing 787-9 aircraft configured with 298 seats: 8 in first class, 28 in business, and 262 in economy.

New Etihad frequencies in Spain

  • Barcelona: from 10 to 12 flights starting June 2. Increases to 14 weekly flights on August 1.
  • Madrid: from 10 to 11 flights starting July 2. Increases to 14 weekly flights on August 2.
  • Málaga: from 3 to 5 weekly flights, from June 3 to October 23. This represents a 71.7% increase in seat availability compared to 2024.

According to AENA Statistics, the airline transported 479,943 passengers between January and October 2024:

  • Madrid: 234,071.
  • Barcelona: 222,432.
  • Málaga: 23,440.
