At 11:20 a.m. this Monday, the inaugural flight of Azul Linhas Aéreas from Campinas, Brazil, landed at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport serving Asunción. This is the first route operated by the Brazilian company to Paraguay as part of a major expansion that also includes connecting Asunción with Curitiba, Recife, and Florianópolis.
The inaugural flight from Campinas, whose airport, Viracopos, is the third largest serving the Greater São Paulo area, was operated with the Embraer E195-E2 registration PS-AER, which Azul added to its fleet in December 2023 and named «Azul Bossa Nova».
Azul will operate two weekly flights between Campinas and Asunción, on Mondays and Fridays. Starting in March 2025, the frequency will increase to four weekly flights.
The aircraft will depart from Campinas at 9:00 a.m., with an estimated arrival in Asunción at 11:00 a.m. On the return trip, flights will leave the Paraguayan capital at 12:15 p.m., landing in Campinas at 2:15 p.m.
«Asunción is a strategic destination for Azul as it connects the Paraguayan capital with our main hub in Campinas, which provides access to a vast network of destinations in Brazil. During the high season, customers will have daily flights between Asunción and Brazil, with regular operations not only from Campinas but also from Curitiba, Florianópolis, and Recife,» said Vitor Silva, General Manager of Network, Strategic Planning, and Alliances at Azul.
«We are very pleased to inaugurate this route, which reinforces our commitment to attracting Paraguayan tourists to explore the beauty and diversity of our country. This is another demonstration of the strength of our network and our ability to connect relevant markets,» he added.
Tomorrow, Tuesday (3), it will be the turn of the inaugural flight of Azul between Asunción and Curitiba, a route that will also operate twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays). Meanwhile, on December 18, flights from Florianópolis will begin (two per week), and on December 22, from Recife (one flight per week).
Paraguay is the seventh international market Azul has entered, following the United States (Fort Lauderdale and Orlando), Portugal (Lisbon), France (Paris-Orly), Curaçao, Argentina (seasonal flights to Bariloche), and Uruguay (Montevideo and Punta del Este).
On the route to Greater São Paulo, Azul will compete with LATAM and GOL, which operate 12 and 7 weekly flights, respectively, although from Guarulhos airport. On the Florianópolis route, it will compete with Paranair, which offers three weekly flights, while on the Recife and Curitiba routes, Azul will be the sole operator.
