Copa Airlines celebrates 35 years of service at Miami International Airport from Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. The airline hosted a special event at the boarding gate featuring performances by traditional Panamanian dancers.
The small ceremony was attended by Marco Ocando, Marketing Director of Copa Airlines, along with other airline executives, airport representatives, the Consul General of Panama in Miami, and local government officials, among others. The event concluded with the departure of the flight operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 9 featuring a commemorative livery inspired by the wonders of Panama.
Ocando said, «For nearly four decades, Copa Airlines has proudly served as a vital connection between the United States and Latin America, with Miami playing a key role as our first gateway to the United States. This connection has fostered cultural exchange, economic growth, and world-class travel experiences. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain dedicated to enhancing connectivity and serving the vibrant and multicultural community of South Florida.»
Copa Airlines began its flights to Miami on December 1, 1989, making it the airline’s first destination in the U.S. Currently, it operates over 50 weekly flights from Tocumen International Airport, connecting with more than 50 destinations in 32 countries across the Americas and the Caribbean.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated, «I am proud to congratulate Copa Airlines on 35 years of connecting Panama with Miami-Dade County. Over these 35 years, Copa’s unwavering commitment to serving our community has made it the ninth busiest airline at Miami International Airport, with the most flights to Panama, serving over 800,000 passengers annually. I look forward to seeing Copa celebrate many more anniversaries in Miami-Dade County.»
