TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola has signed an agreement with AerCap Holdings, a global leader in aircraft leasing, for the addition of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to its fleet. According to the airline, the aircraft is scheduled for delivery in February 2025 and will be deployed on regional and intercontinental routes.
As stated by TAAG, the acquisition of the Boeing 787-9 is part of its fleet modernization program. Nelson de Oliveira, the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “This agreement with AerCap represents an important milestone for our flag carrier, being an essential step to enable the modernization of our fleet. The introduction of the Boeing 787-9 reinforces our commitment to the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability, while also optimizing operational costs and providing a more environmentally friendly air mobility solution.”
Aengus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, highlighted the aircraft’s potential: “As part of its fleet modernization program, the 787-9 will enable TAAG to expand its operations in Africa, Europe, and Asia with one of the most fuel-efficient wide-body aircraft in the market, contributing to increased passenger flow on its routes.”
The addition of the 787-9 aligns with TAAG’s efforts to expand its operational capabilities and international reach. The airline currently serves 12 domestic destinations and 11 international routes, while also operating cargo services.
AerCap, headquartered in Dublin, works with approximately 300 customers worldwide and provides leasing solutions for aircraft globally. This agreement marks the first collaboration between the two companies to integrate a Boeing 787-9 into the Angolan airline’s fleet.
TAAG’s fleet consists of 6 DHC-8-400, 7 Boeing 737-700, 5 Boeing 777-300ER, 3 Boeing 777-200ER, and one A220-300, as well as two freighters: a 737-700 and a 737-800SF.
TAAG also has 14 Airbus A220-300s pending delivery, which will replace the 737-700s, along with one Boeing 787-9 and two Boeing 787-10s.
