Wizz Air to Launch New Flights to Spain Amid Rising Competition with Ryanair

Gustavo Roe

After moderate growth in 2024, Wizz Air will add new routes and frequencies in Spain from Italy, Romania, Poland, and Moldova.

The expansion aims to counter the strong competition from Ryanair, its main rival in markets such as Italy and Poland, and to face the growth of emerging airlines like FlyOne and SkyUp Airlines in Moldova. Wizz Air is also positioning itself to take advantage of the crisis affecting traditional airlines like TAROM in Romania and the fall of Czech Airlines in the Czech Republic.

Despite the challenges caused by the war in Ukraine, which led Wizz Air to close bases and adjust its network, Central and Eastern Europe remain its main markets. The airline has responded to these difficulties with an expansion strategy now focused on Spain, a priority destination for 2025.
