Avianca adds two new routes to Medellín

Colombia’s largest airline, Avianca announces two new routes between Medellin (MDE) – San Andres (ADZ) and the resumption of its operation between Medellin (MDE) – Bucaramanga (BGA) starting next December, this is part of the announcement of additional routes confirmed by the airline months before, as part of its reactivation in the market.

For this reason, we continue to focus on expanding domestic and international connectivity for our travelers in Antioquia. This year we inaugurated the Medellin-Cancun and Medellin-Punta Cana routes; and by December we will add Medellin-San Andres and Medellin-Bucaramanga with our proposal: low prices, customized products, and a robust network, with a punctual, biosecure and reliable service», says Ana Maria Copete, Avianca’s Director of Sales Colombia.

Avianca will compete against rivals such as VIVA, which established Medellín (MDE) as its hub, and LATAM Airlines, both of which operate the destinations announced by Colombia’s largest airline, the rapid recovery of the air market has caused a fierce competition among the region’s airline operators.

On the Medellin (MDE) – San Andres (ADZ) route, VIVA operates 38 weekly flights between 5 and 7 daily flights with 61,664 monthly seats, LATAM Airlines operates two daily flights with Airbus A319 and A320 with 24,400 monthly seats.

On the Medellin (MDE) – Bucaramanga (BGA) route, VIVA operates 6 weekly flights with 10,152 monthly seats, LATAM Airlines operates 4 weekly flights with Airbus A319 and A320 with 5436 monthly seats.

Flight Schedule

  • Medellin – San Andres AV9256 MDE 15:10 – ADZ 17:00 three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.
  • San Andres – Medellin AV9251 ADZ 17:45 – MDE 19:33 three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.

The airline will offer close to 1,000 seats per week on this route.

  • Medellín – Bucaramanga AV8570 MDE 06:03 – BGA 06:58 daily flights operated by Airbus A320.
    Bucaramanga – Medellin AV8569 BGA 07:38 – MDE 08:33 daily flights operated by Airbus A320.

The airline will offer close to 2,000 seats per week on this route.

Both routes start from December 2, 2021, ticket sale is already available from Avianca’s website.

Avianca is the largest airline operator of domestic flights in Colombia, today Medellin has 10 domestic routes (Barranquilla, Bogota, Cali, Cartagena, Santa Marta and Monteria) and international routes (Cancun, New York JFK, Cancun and Punta Cana).

The airline offers 99 routes, more than 2,680 flights per week and a supply of nearly 400,000 seats, one of the largest networks in Latin America.
