The airline unveiled its schedule for the coming months, it will once again connect the islands with different points in Europe, after almost two years of having suspended services as a result of the health crisis.

The Faroe Islands are a self-governing archipelago belonging to Denmark.  Since the pandemic outbreak, the company operated only a handful of flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Billund (BLL), and Aalborg (AAL). In June 2021 they resumed flights to Reykjavik (KEF) in Iceland and Oslo (OSL) in Norway. Another route that returned was to Edinburgh (EDI) in the UK on October 7.

In the northern hemisphere summer of 2021, it attempted to resume operations, but health conditions in several key markets for Atlantic Airways aborted the plans. Therefore, Denmark has been its only direct connection to the old continent for a long time. However, markets with favorable epidemiological conditions, such as Norway and Iceland, gave the company’s finances a lifeline.

The islands are favored by the Gulf Stream, allowing warmer temperatures despite being close to the Arctic Circle. In the last year, the government has diversified its economy by focusing on tourism, so it boosted Atlantic Airways’ fleet expansion to attract tourists.

The Faroese government purchased four Airbus A320neo to replace its A319s, allowing it to increase the supply of seats to its destinations. In addition, in 2019 it filed an application with the DOT for a weekly non-stop flight to New York but did not get to operate it due to the outbreak of the health crisis.

The company currently has one Airbus A320ceo, two Airbus A320neo and two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters.
