Avianca Inaugurates Direct Flights to North America

After Avianca announced that it successfully completed its financial restructuring process and emerged from Chapter 11 as a more efficient and financially sound airline, with significantly reduced debt and more than $1 billion in liquidity, the Colombian flag carrier continues with positive news.

This time, the Colombian airline announced 2 new routes with destination to New York and Toronto.

After completing the Chapter 11 process in 18 months, Avianca renewed its business model to be significantly more efficient, reaffirming its commitment to provide a reliable and punctual service, combining a value proposition that includes the best attributes of the low-cost model, while preserving the key differentials that allow it to be the most convenient travel alternative for millions of passengers in Latin America and the world.

On December 3, Avianca inaugurated its first flight between Cali and New York.

With the launch of the Cali – New York route, the company will connect the 2 cities non-stop with 6 flights a week that will be operated in an Airbus A320, with capacity for 150 passengers.

The Colombian flag carrier will offer of around 1,000 weekly chairs with this new route.

With the 11 new routes that will take off in December, Avianca will add more than 100 weekly flights and more than 13,000 seats a week to its operation.

On the other hand, on the same December 3, Avianca also inaugurated its new route between Bogotá and Toronto.

With the launch of Bogotá – Toronto route, which is one of the 23 new direct international routes launched by the Colombian flag carrier, Avianca will connect Colombia with a non-stop flight with Canada.

This new international flight will be operated with 6 weekly flights and will be operated on an Airbus A319, with capacity for 120 passengers, offering in this way more than 700 weekly seats.

With the launch of these new routes, Avianca reaffirms its commitment to the connectivity of its customers, who today can directly access more than 70 destinations.

The Colombian low-cost carrier will offer its customers for the end of the year a total of 116 domestic and international routes, about 3,400 flights a week and more than 515,000 weekly seats in the biggest network in Colombia and one of the most complete from Latin America.

  1. One can only hope that Avianca’s fortunes will finally start improving. Less talking about hopes and more actually showing satisfactory operational results (financial sustainability included). They mustn’t overextend themselves like they did during the Efromovich era.
