TAP Air Portugal keeps re-building its intercontinental network as travel restrictions continue to ease, which, as far as the American continent is concerned, is still 24% down compared to February 2022 versus February 2020, prior to the outbreak of the pandemic without considering the supply of seats, and 20% down in terms of frequencies.

In this respect, today it was announced that the Portuguese airline will resume another service to South America, the one linking Lisbon to Porto Alegre (POA), which will mean flying again to all its Brazilian destinations.

Flight schedules are already programmed in the Brazilian ANAC system for the end of March, but the airline’s website only allows reservations to be made as of April 7.

According to our Brazilian media partner Aeroin, the operation will be carried out with Airbus A330-200 aircraft for 269 passengers, with the possibility of alternating with A330-900neo. Flights connecting the capital of Rio Grande do Sul with Lisbon will initially take off on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 7:05 p.m., arriving in Portugal almost eleven hours later.

Based on ANAC data, Porto Alegre currently has international flights to Montevideo and Punta del Este, in Uruguay (Azul), and with Panama (Copa Airlines). In March, the connection to Lima, Peru (Latam) is scheduled to return, and in April, TAP flights to Lisbon.

Thus, little by little, the south of Brazil can reach other countries more easily, without having to include a connection in São Paulo, and it also opens a new intercontinental connection door for inhabitants of neighboring areas of Argentina and Uruguay.

As of today, according to information obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, TAP operates 91 weekly flights to America, with Brazil, for historical reasons, being its main market in the continent, with 69 frequencies per week linking Lisbon with Belem, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Natal, Recife, and Salvador; as well as flights from Porto to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Porto Alegre will be added to them.

TAP’s American network also reaches Boston (BOS), Cancun (CUN), Newark (EWR), Washington-Dulles (IAD), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Punta Cana (PUJ), San Francisco (SFO), Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ).
